Indy is Back

So maybe "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was 18 years ago. Maybe Harrison Ford turns 65 in three weeks and is older than Sean Connery was when he played Indy's father. Maybe Ford hasn't made a decent movie since "What Lies Beneath" in 2000 or a good one since "Air Force One" in 1997. Maybe this movie should have been made 15 years ago. Maybe the dozens of scripts they allegedly plowed through never quite hit the mark. Maybe it will suck horribly.

But damned if I didn't see this pic of Harrison Ford wearing that fedora and get a little excited for next summer...

*squeeeeeeee*

I've been waiting for this movie forever. Of course I'm really scared it's going to suck.

Among the new film's highlights will be a low-speed chase with "Rascal" scooters and a Metamucil drinking contest.

Of course, I'll go see it even if all the reviwers trash it because hey, it's Indiana Jones.

So long as the story acknowledges his age, and uses it as part of the plot, then I say rock on, Indy. As I understand it, the movie is set in the 50's, so the character will be older - and if it's written well, that can add to the story.

Anybody read Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns? In that classic graphic novel the caped crusader is pushing sixty, with all that entails - aching joints, shortness of breath, a loss of agility - but it also meant a mature character with a lifetime's worth of demons, memories and regrets.

If they can do something like that with Indy, it could be great.

Of course, it could also be bloody awful, but I'm an optimist. After all, Rocky Balboa was a far better movie than anyone expected.

It's gonna make a ton of money. And I'm sure it'll be good. Right now I'm glad they didn't go with the M. Night script he supposedly wrote.

I'm totally looking forward to it. I love Indiana Jones, almost as much as Star Wars. I think it's because they were the two biggest cinematic influences when I was a pre-teen. It's not going to suck. It's not. (I'm just going to keep saying it over and over and over again and maybe it will make it true.)
